The Premier League Panel: Is Fabian Schär the best bargain in PL history?
The latest Fantasy Premier League injury news for Gameweek 9 - with news on Alexander Isak, Chris Wood and many more.
Another Fantasy Premier League gameweek is fast approaching and ahead of Friday evening’s deadline, we’re back with our regular round-up of all the key FPL injury news – along with our expert’s opinion on how you should react.
Alexander Isak, Ryan Gravenberch and Chris Wood are among the players out or doubtful for Gameweek 9, and we’ve been scouring the latest media reports and listening in to the managers’ pre-match press conferences to bring you all of the latest news on them and many more popular FPL picks that could be missing out this weekend. So without further ado…
Will Alexander Isak play vs Brentford?
Alexander Isak: The Swedish striker hasn’t exactly found his form at Anfield since his record-breaking (and deeply controversial) transfer from Newcastle United, but if you were thinking about taking a chance on him then you should give it another week – Slot told the media that he is “a question mark” for the game against Brentford and while his groin injury is “not too bad” there’s every chance that Hugo Ekitiké is up front this weekend.
Ryan Gravenberch, Jeremie Frimpong & Alisson: Isak isn’t the only Liverpool player who might miss out – Gravenberch gets the ‘question mark’ treatment too, but Frimpong and Alisson will definitely not be involved. Frimpong is gone for a few weeks with a hamstring problem. Sell him, if you somehow haven’t already.
Chris Wood: Wood’s form has seen his popularity as an FPL striker slide considerably, but he should suit new manager Sean Dyche’s style of play – he could be out this weekend, however, having missed the midweek match against Porto. He’s said to be “touch and go” having missed a lot of training. We wouldn’t sign him until we saw a few more signs of life anyway.
Evanilson: At the time of writing, we’re still waiting for Andoni Iraola’s press conference to confirm Evanilson’s availability this weekend – but on Monday the Spanish manager told the press that it would be “difficult” for his forward to play against Nottingham Forest due to a “small injury.” If you were tempted by the Forest fixture, you should probably steer clear pending Iraola’s last word on Friday.
Kaoru Mitoma and Cristian Romero doubts for FPL Gameweek 9
Kaoru Mitoma: It’s been a month since Mitoma last played and we had expected him to return last week – instead, he remains a doubt for Brighton & Hove Albion as he recuperates from an unspecified muscular injury. We once again suspect that he’ll be involved in some capacity, but perhaps not for a full 90 minutes. If you were debating whether to bring him in soon, hold on for a little longer.
Cristian Romero: Spurs’ solid defending thus far means that quite a lot of manager have Romero, but he’s a major doubt for this weekend having picked up what Thomas Frank described in midweek as a “minor problem.” No need to panic sell here, but he may miss out as he did against Monaco and we think Spurs defenders aren’t bad sells anyway as they walk into the teeth of some tough fixtures.
Joachim Andersen: The Fulham defender remains a modestly popular choice among managers but won’t be involved against Newcastle – Marco Silva has confirmed that he is out with a hamstring injury, although it is “not so serious.” No need to sell him if you have him, although we’d have him pegged as a player worth moving on before too long anyway as Fulham simply don’t keep enough clean sheets.
Omar Alderete: A popular budget enabler at the back, Alderete will miss the Chelsea fixture at least while he heals up from a concussion. No clarity on when exactly he’ll be back, but one to keep buried on the bench, anyway.
