College Football Power Rankings In The Big 12

Heading into Week 9 of the college football season, these are the power rankings in the Big 12 conference.

Big 12 Power Rankings

If you look up “statement win” in the dictionary, you should see a picture of Arizona State’s 26-22 victory over Texas Tech. It was a direct statement that the Big 12 is still run by its defending champs from Tempe. Sam Leavitt and crew just refused to lose, and the spoils of that victory include the top spot on this ranking after Week 8.

I’m not going to knock Texas Tech too far down, considering they lost a game to a quality opponent, on the road, with a backup QB. Texas Tech is like the LIV Golf of college football – a whole lot of oil money paid for a lot of talent, but they’re missing an “it factor” that the top teams in the sport possess. But at the same time, if they run the table the rest of the way, they make it to Dallas for the Big 12 Championship game.

3. BYU

It’s time to take BYU seriously. I had previously doubted the Cougars based on their general talent level and the strength of their wins to this point in the season. But make no mistake about it – this is an incredibly well-coached football team by Kalani Sitake that makes the smart plays and wins in the margins (special teams, turnovers, penalties, red zone, and 3rd downs). This will make them an incredibly tough out.
