Albion goalkeeper earns England call ahead of Brazil clash

She is in the squad for friendlies against Brazil at Etihad tomorrow and Australia at Derby County on Tuesday after Euros star Hannah Hampton withdrew through injury.

Hampton has trained with England but will not be risked due to what is termed a "small" issue.

Baggaley’s fine form last season took her into the thinking of head coach Sarina Wiegman, who spoke about her with Albion counterpart Dario Vidosic.

She has been on the bench in the WSL so far this season after the Seagulls signed Nigeria No.1 Chiamaka Nnadozie.

But Baggaley has been working hard in training and played in three League Cup fixtures, including two clean sheets.

Speaking to The Argus last week, Vidosic said: “She has been doing very well also but that is a decision I have made at the moment to go with Chi (Nnadozie).

“But she is working well and, if the opportunity comes, which it will at the weekend, it will be an opportunity for her to put her best foot forward and try to make my decision as difficult as possible after the international break.”

Albion striker Michelle Agyemang, on loan from Arsenal, is also in Lionesses squad.

Meanwhile Nnadozie has been shortlisted for the African women’s goalkeeper of the year award, largely due to her starring role as Nigeria won WAFCON in the summer.
