Stefon Diggs' Week 8 fantasy outlook has major key stat for Patriots

Stefon Diggs wants to protect his house.

Well, more accurately, the New England Patriots' house.

The Pats are back home in Week 8, but they're only 1-2 in home games so far this season.

"Protect the house," Diggs told reporters this week. "It's time to get back to the crib, get in front of our home crowd and give them something to be proud of."

It's the 5-2 Patriots hosting the 2-5 Browns in a game the Pats should win.

Diggs has the opportunity to play a big part in the victory, too, for one specific matchup reason.

According to ESPN's Eric Moody, the Browns play man coverage more than any team in the NFL. And the player who leads the Patriots in yards per route run against man? That'd be Diggs.

ESPN's Seth Walder adds the stat that Diggs currently has an 80 "Open Score," a WR measurement that more or less tells you what the name implies. The higher the score, the more a wide receiver is positioning himself to make plays. That Diggs number ranks fifth in the entire NFL.

Whatever time Diggs needed to recover from last season's torn ACL has apparently been adequate, because Diggs has looked like his old self of late.

The Patriots are getting massively impressive play from second-year quarterback Drake Maye, and other receivers are succeeding, too.

But New England brought Diggs aboard this season to be the leader of the WR room, and this matchup is one of his chances to do that. Diggs can still beat man coverage. The Browns won't shy away from playing it anyway. It'll be up to Diggs to continue to prove that he's still got it.
