'Different to what I was expecting': Ruben Amorim shares verdict on Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes

Ruben Amorim has praised Bruno Fernandes ahead of the midfielder potentially making his 300th appearance for Manchester United against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Red Devils go into the fixture on the back of a huge win over Liverpool in the Premier League.

Amorim hasn’t won three in a row at Old Trafford since taking charge, but that could change when they host Brighton this weekend.

Ruben Amorim praises Bruno Fernandes ahead of 300th Manchester United appearance

Fernandes will make his 300th appearance for the Manchester outfit if he features against Brighton.

Amorim has commented on the historic milestone and admitted Bruno is not the player he expected him to be.

As per BBC Sport, he said: “He is a little bit different to what I was expecting. Everything you read about the players sometimes is not that.

“He wants to help a lot the teammates, sometimes it’s not in the best way but it comes from a good place.

“He wants the responsibility all the time. He suffers a lot with the losses and you can see he takes it personally as he should as a captain. Let’s see if he is going to reach that mark tomorrow.”

The perception of Fernandes in England is pretty negative, with journalist Dean Jones previously suggesting that he ‘is probably one of the most hated figures in the Premier League,’ as per GMS.

However, the narrative from those inside Old Trafford is very different.

Senne Lammens agrees with Ruben Amorim’s verdict on Bruno Fernandes

Amorim mentioned how the Man Utd skipper is keen to help his teammates, and there are several stories that back that claim up.

Senne Lammens praised Fernandes for how the midfielder treated him after arriving at Old Trafford.

He said: “The first moment I met him he made me feel welcome at the club, and coming from your captain, it’s a nice feeling.”

Youngster Dermot Mee had a similarly positive view of the 31-year-old.

He stated: “When I was about 18, the first time I went up [to the first team] and trained with him, he gave me a bet that if I could save two out of five of his shots he’d give me a signed shirt.

“I didn’t do it, but he went and got me one anyway and sorted me out.”
