The future of Julian Alvarez has been a key talking point in the market lately, especially amid Atletico Madrid’s troubles this season.
The Argentine international has been an evident outperformer since joining the club in 2024, having racked up 36 goals and 11 assists in just 68 matches.
However, Atletico Madrid have been unable to perform and live up to Martinez’s expectations this season, which has led to speculation about his future.
In recent times, Barcelona have emerged as one of the potential suitors for Alvarez, as the club look to find a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
Julian Alvarez’s agent on his future
In light of these speculations, Julian Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has recently given an update on the player’s future, notably denying all the rumours.
“Nothing that’s being written is true. These are just imaginative hypotheses at this point,” he told Calciomercato (h/t SPORT).

This is quite the statement from Hidalgo and doesn’t exactly bode well for Barcelona, as it implies Alvarez does see his near-term future at Atletico Madrid.
Hidalgo, in the past, has stated that Alvarez loves playing for a Spanish club, with a special reference to Barcelona and Lionel Messi.
“Obviously, Julian admires Spanish clubs, and having followed Leo Messi’s career as a child… There aren’t many Argentinians who don’t have a special feeling for Barcelona,” he had said.
But under current circumstances, it appears unlikely that Barcelona will be able to sign the former Manchester City star anytime soon.
It must be noted that Alvarez has a €500 million release clause embedded in his Atletico Madrid contract, making it almost impossible for Barcelona to stage a pursuit, at least in the immediate future.
