Insider reveals why Jets are hesitant to trade Breece Hall

The 2025 NFL trade deadline is just around the corner, and the New York Jets are going to be sellers. But the question remains who they'll trade away, and how far they go at the deadline.

Running back Breece Hall is one of the more obvious trade candidates, but there's no guarantee that the Jets move on from him in the next two weeks.

And according to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda.com, the Jets might be hesitant to trade Hall for one reason: the Jets lack running back depth after Hall.

Why the Jets might not trade Breece Hall

"There is plenty of interest for Hall, who is in the final year of his rookie contract," Pauline reports, "but sources close to the team tell me that the Jets' lack of depth at running back has them hesitant to make a deal."

Even though Hall is drawing trade interest, he might not be on the move. With the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans, among others, who are interested in adding a running back, Hall is likely the best option available.

But his availability might not be as it seems, especially if the Jets are hesitant, as Pauline reports. While holding onto Hall to let him walk in the offseason might not be the best option, it's within the realm of possibility for this Jets team.

If they move on from Hall, their running back room is significantly depleted. Braelon Allen is hurt and out for eight to 12 weeks, putting Allen on track to return very late in the year.

A trade of Hall would leave second-year running back Isaiah Davis as the new lead back. This season, Davis has 10 rushing attempts for 44 yards and nine receptions for 73 yards.

While Davis is a solid change-of-pace back, making him the full-time starter would be a risky endeavor. Last year for the Jets, Davis had 30 attempts for 174 yards and one touchdown.

He's shown promise, but with Allen out for a while longer, and in Hall's absence, Davis would have little depth behind him. Kene Nwangwu and Khalil Herbert would be his backups, and neither has run the ball for New York this season.

Nwangwu didn't run the ball last year either, though Herbert had 36 carries for 130 yards and one touchdown in 2024. To put it succinctly, the running back depth if Hall is traded isn't great for the Jets.

Even if the Jets front office and Aaron Glenn believe in Davis, having little depth behind him for the majority of the year isn't the best place to be. That lack of depth is reportedly causing the Jets to hesitate to trade Hall.

A trade of Hall is still on the table, but this lack of depth is something to keep in mind as the deadline approaches.
