PITTSBURGH --Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is taking scout team reps so that the team’s defense can help better prepare for the Green Bay Packers defense. Rodgers, who is the tam’s starter, does not usually take any scout teams reps, but given he played for the Packers for 18 seasons, he thought it would be prudent to help on scout team.
Steelers safety Juan Thornhill says those looks are giving the team’s defense some much-needed help, especially after a rough outing against the Cincinnati Bengals in their previous loss.
“Yeah, definitely, because I mean, he knows it,” Thornhill said after practice. “He knows their system, the tempo that they’re going to go at. It’s definitely going to help us out. It forces us to communicate a lot faster, more deliberate with us, as well. Just because he know our defense, he knows the tempo that they’re gonna be going at. It just makes us communicate a little bit better, with the crowd noise, as well."
Ahead of the matchup, Rodgers discussed his time in Green Bay and his emotions entering the game and said there is no animosity.
“I don’t have any animosity towards the organization,“ Rodgers said. ”Obviously I wish that things would’ve been better during our last year there, but I have a great relationship with a lot of people still in that organization.
“This is not a revenge game for me, I’m just excited to see some of those guys and be on Sunday Night Football again.”
Rodgers has played well for the Steelers, throwing 14 touchdowns to five interceptions while leading a Steelers offense that has soared to one of the better units in the NFL behind Rodgers’ resurgent performances.
