Blazing-fast Steelers wide receiver goes down with finger injury

PITTSBURGH --Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Scotty Miller suffered a finger injury during Thursday’s practice and it is unknown what his status will be moving forward with this injury. Miller, who played just 8 snaps against the Bengals, is a key veteran depth piece for the team.

If he can not play, it would signal a bigger role for players like Ke’Shawn Williams, who was elevated from the practice squad to the 53-man roster for return duties after Calvin Austin III suffered a shoulder injury against the Minnesota Vikings.

Miller was with the Steelers for all of last season and was a carryover from Arthur Smith’s group in Atlanta. He worked primarily on special teams and as a reserve gunner. Miller had just five receptions for 69 yards and was released before their playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens. He was later re-signed to the practice squad.

He made the 53-man roster this year with an excellent training camp, separating himself from others such as Robert Woods.

Miller also served as the backup punt returner to Austin. The Steelers needed depth at wide receiver during the offseason so they brought back his veteran presence. If the finger injury is anything serious, it could knock Miller out for a significant period of time.
