Jim Harbaugh lauds Justin Herbert after Chargers defeat Vikings

The Los Angeles Chargers returned to winning ways on Thursday Night Football (October 23), taking down the Minnesota Vikings 37-10 at SoFi Stadium.

It was a much needed victory for the AFC West outfit, following a brutal Week 7 loss at home to the Indianapolis Colts.

Justin Herbert put on strong showing for the Chargers, throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns, as his team moved to 5-3 for the year.

The quarterback has delivered in crucial moments this NFL season, making clutch plays in wins over the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins in recent weeks.

The 27-year-old's latest display was particularly impressive due to the minor setbacks that came his way against Kevin O'Connell's team.

After having an interception overruled on the Chargers' opening drive, Josh Metellus picked off Herbert legitimately in the third quarter.

The Vikings scored a touchdown right after thanks to a Jordan Addison catch in the endzone, bringing the score to 24-10 and giving the road team small hope of a potential comeback.

However, Herbert was determined to secure the win for his team and connected with rookie tight-end Tre Harris on the next drive to register his third touchdown of the night.

Kicker Cameron Dicker then converted two more field-goal attempts to seal a Chargers victory.

Chargers head coach praises Herbert for TNF display

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was full of praise for his star quarterback's Week 8 performance, highlighting the strong response to the interception.

"It's just another thing about Justin Herbert that I don't know how he does it," the 61-year-old stated following Thursday night's game in Los Angeles.

"To be able to actually throw an interception and then come back the next drive. That's the great ones who can do that. The great, great ones," Harbaugh added.

"That's the worst thing that can really happen to you as a quarterback (throwing an interception). Not Justin Herbert, you know, back right down the field. He puts together another scoring drive and another one after that."

The Chargers head coach also felt Herbert put in a a complete offensive performance, through using his arm and legs effectively against a tough Vikings defence overseen by Brian Flores.

"It's so rare that he doesn't see it or read it or know the exact coverage and where to go with the ball."

"He did a great job tonight running and picking up first downs with his athleticism. Just another stellar performance by Justin Herbert."

Harbaugh will be hoping his starting quarterback can produce more great displays for the remainder of the regular season, starting with the team's Week 9 trip to the Tennessee Titans on November 2.
