The Miami Dolphins made a surprise addition to their injury report on Thursday when wide receiver Jaylen Waddle popped up on the list.
Waddle is listed with two hamstring issues and was limited at practice on Thursday after he was a full participant on Wednesday. That would seem to suggest Waddle's injuries occurred at practice, but that hasn't been confirmed.
Nevertheless, a mid-week addition to the injury report is never a good sign for a player's availability, so his status is one to monitor.
On Friday, head coach Mike McDaniel offered some optimism for Waddle. He said that Waddle is expected to play despite his two hamstring issues.
"Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel tells reporters gathered in Miami Gardens that Jaylen Waddle is expected to play through tweaked hamstrings," The Sun Sentinel's David Furones reports.
The Dolphins will release their final injury report of the week later in the day on Friday, so we'll have a better idea of where he stands then.
It goes without saying that the Dolphins desperately need Waddle.
Not only is Tyreek Hill on the shelf for the rest of the season, but tight end Darren Waller was recently placed on injured reserve.
Even if Waddle does play, there will still be a major concern surrounding him. If he isn't 100%, that will leave him at risk of re-injury and an early exit from the contest against the Atlanta Falcons.
Turning in anything less than a full practice on Friday would be a good indicator that Waddle won't be fully healthy in Week 8.
