Defender Leeds sold has done something that should leave Daniel Farke very embarrassed - Opinion

Leeds United’s struggles in front of goal have been brought into sharp focus by the performance of one of their former defenders, as Daniel Farke strives to find Leeds’ missing cutting edge.

Noah Okafor is Leeds’ leading scorer this season with just two goals as the Whites have missed a succession of big chances in the Premier League.

With the Whites preparing for a crucial encounter against West Ham, the pressure is on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to rediscover his scoring form after going three games without a goal.

Calvert-Lewin is one of five Leeds players with a single goal to their name this season, with doubts over Noah Okafor and Willy Gnonto meaning Farke may struggle to refresh his forward line against the Hammers.

The performance of several Leeds loanees has thrown their struggles in front of goal into sharp focus, with both Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt finding the net this week. However, it is the goals scored by former Leeds man Robin Koch that should give Farke a cause for concern.

Robin Koch’s goal tally is embarrassing for Leeds United

Although Robin Koch has received criticism for his performances in defence for Eintracht Frankfurt, it is his form in front of goal that should make Daniel Farke sit up and take notice.

As things stand, Koch would be the joint-top goalscorer in the Leeds United squad, having scored two goals for the German side so far this season.

Name Goals Assists Goal Contributions

Joe Gelhardt 4 2 6

Mateo Joseph 2 1 3

Robin Koch 2 0 2

Noah Okafor 2 0 2

Anton Stach 1 1 2

Sean Longstaff 1 1 2

Joseph’s recent double for Mallorca means the Leeds loanee now has more goal contributions than any player in the Leeds squad this season, having also registered an assist earlier in the season.

Heading into the game against West Ham, Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach are level with Okafor for the most goal contributions for Leeds, having scored one and registered one assist each, according to FotMob.

This is not to suggest that Leeds made the wrong decision in allowing Koch to leave. However, the fact that the central defender has scored more goals than the entire Leeds squad, aside from Okafor, is an embarrassing indictment of Farke’s squad.

Former Leeds United defender has night to forget against Liverpool

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times for the former Leeds defenders on show as Eintracht Frankfurt faced Liverpool in the Champions League.

Right-back Rasmus Kristensen had produced a good display, scoring the only goal of the night for Frankfurt in a 5-1 victory for Liverpool.

However, Koch received a rating of 4.6 from FotMob, the worst of any player on the pitch, as his poor run of form at the back continued.

Having made an error that led to a Freiburg goal in Frankfurt’s recent 2-2 draw, the Eintracht boss may be tempted to play him up front in their upcoming fixtures.
