De'Von Achane could get less work as Dolphins plan to get Jaylen Wright involved

The Miami Dolphins are 1-6 and heading into Georgia to face the Atlanta Falcons for a Week 8 showdown between two left-handed quarterbacks. Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix have had shaky seasons, but the Falcons are 3-3 while the Dolphins have just one win this season.

Miami is looking to get the offense back on track after getting blown out by the Cleveland browns in Week 7, 31-6. Part of that plan for Mike McDaniel and the offense is going to involve Jaylen Waddle, but it's also going to impact the running game.

As Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports, the Dolphins are planning to incorporate Jaylen Wright into the offense in Week 8, which means that De'Von Achane could see his workload decrease in a tough matchup against the Falcons.

Dolphins plan to use Jaylen Wright more in Week 8

"Asked about running back Jaylen Wright, he said he wants to get him more involved," Jackson reports. "Wright was inactive for the Carolina and Chargers games and didn't play an offensive snap against Cleveland."

Wright hasn't been used by the offense this season at all. While he's been active, he's yet to record any offensive touches in 2025. Achane and rookie running back Ollie Gordon II have dominated the backfield shares this season.

Heading into Week 8, the Dolphins are planning to use Wright more. That could mean that Achane, the Dolphins' star dual-threat running back, could see less work than normal.

He should still be the focal point of the offense, but Wright's involvement, combined with Gordon likely getting some work, could mean Achane sees a few fewer snaps in Week 8.

Achane has put up 472 rushing yards on 89 attempts to go with three touchdowns on the ground. He also has 211 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 21 receptions so far this season.

That dual-threat ability is the reason why the Dolphins will still use Achane plenty in Week 8. But Wright will likely take some snaps from Achane and Gordon, creating a more crowded backfield for Miami.

Wright has been floated as a name to watch in trade talks, and since he had yet to play on offense, such a trade seemed likely. But now, the Dolphins are finally planning to use the 2024 draft pick on offense, as McDaniel wants to get him more involved.

Achane should still get the majority of the touches, but he might not see as many opportunities as he has previously in games this season.

The usage for Miami's backfield will be one to watch in Atlanta, as the Dolphins are expected to use all three of their running backs, with Achane, Gordon, and Wright all factoring into the offensive game plan.
