Hurzeler reveals what he discusses with England boss Tuchel

The Albion boss is in contact with his German compatriot from time to time as Tuchel plots England’s World Cup campaign.

Danny Welbeck has been suggested by some fans and media as a possible late entry into plans for next summer’s tournament given his fine form on the field and his positive influence off it.

But Hurzeler said that is not a topic he has discussed with Tuchel.

The Seagulls head coach revealed: “It's not a regular exchange but, if we have time, we get in touch.

“We don't talk specifically about our players, it's more general football discussions.

“I really appreciate his opinion and how he's doing for the England national team.

“I congratulated him for qualifying for the World Cup (qualification).

“Let's see what England can achieve in this tournament.”

Hurzeler believes he has a lot to learn from Tuchel, who is 20 years his senior and has coached Mainz, Dortmund, Bayern, PSG and Chelsea.

He added: “I think it's always good for me as a young coach to have an exchange with these kinds of coaches.

“They have achieved a lot, especially Thomas, who has worked for England, and what he did with Chelsea was just as impressive.

“It's always an exchange that I can learn from.”

Hurzeler said he does not need to push Welbeck’s claims during his calls with the England boss.

He added: “I'm sure that Thomas will watch him, but I'm happy that I see that England is progressing well with Thomas and I'm sure that he will make the right decisions and let's see what he will decide regarding Danny.”
