Browns' Deshaun Watson Sends Strong Message Ahead of Looming Return

Despite the Cleveland Browns winning in dominant fashion in Week 7 over the Miami Dolphins, questions continue to remain about who will ultimately be the long-term solution at quarterback in Cleveland. Ahead of his return from injury, former starter Deshaun Watson shared a confident message that he could very well be the right man to take control of the quarterback room.

Watson hasn’t played in an NFL game since Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season after sustaining a torn Achilles injury.

While the vast majority of Browns fans have been clamoring for Shedeur Sanders to receive an opportunity as the starting quarterback, some have predicted that Watson may get another chance at starting over the likes of Dillon Gabriel or Sanders.

Watson still has a ways to go in his recovery process, which Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski made incredibly clear earlier this month when he declared there was “no timetable” for his eventual return.

However, whenever Watson is cleared to return to play, he is confident that he can impress Cleveland’s coaching staff and ultimately get his career back on the right track.

On Friday, Browns quarterback coach Bill Musgrave discussed Watson’s mindset while sidelined this season, explaining that the former Pro Bowler still believes he has “tread left on his tire” to produce at the NFL level.

“He feels like he has a lot of tread left on his tire,” said Musgrave of Watson, via Browns reporter Daniel Oyefusi.

At one point, Watson truly looked like a superstar in the making. So it perhaps shouldn’t be much of a shock that he is still confident in his abilities.

Still, given just how disastrous his tenure in Cleveland has gone thus far, it is certainly promising that Watson remains as confident as he appears to be.

Given Watson’s recovery timeline, it’s unclear whether he will see the field for the Browns this season. But if he does, he sure seems dead set on proving his doubters wrong and returning to form.
