Colin Cowherd proposes wild scenario for Golden State Warriors to trade for NBA superstar

The Golden State Warriors have begun the 2025-26 NBA season 2-0. A convincing victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on opening night was followed by an OT thriller win against the Denver Nuggets. Stephen Curry looks like he’s still that guy. Jimmy Butler still has what it takes to drop over 30 points.

Despite all this, questions remain about this team’s ceiling. Whether they will be able to last through the entire season, considering how old the roster is, remains to be seen. So while Dubs fans have plenty to cheer about at the moment, some think that trading for a younger star makes more sense.

"Jimmy Butler is a fling. He's not a phase… I would trade Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, and 4 first-round picks for Giannis [Antetokounmpo]. And see if it's enough [to compete for a title]."

“Jimmy Butler’s a fling,” Cowherd said. “He’s not a phase. I think it’s time for the fling, at the trade deadline, to end. And I love Jimmy Butler. But Steve Kerr is too smart to think 37-year-old Steph, 35-year-old Draymond, 36-year-old Jimmy Butler, and now 39-year-old Al Horford can compete in the West.

“They can’t. They can’t… I would trade Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, and four first-round picks for Giannis and see if it’s enough.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a superstar. He’s won a championship, Finals MVP, two MVPs, a DPOY, and been named to the All-Star team nine times. The Greek Freak seems open to leaving the Milwaukee Bucks and would be a great fit in Golden State. While Butler has settled in well on the team, if they can get Giannis, it really would be a no-brainer for the Warriors.
