NFL star comments on possible retirement after season-ending injury

Injured Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill may be calling it a career.

Hill will miss the remainder of the 2025 season after he tore his ACL and multiple ligaments in his knee during Miami’s 27-21 win over the New York Jets on Sept. 29.

Nearly a month after his season-ending injury, the 31-year-old wide receiver was noncommittal about his NFL future when asked by former Dolphins teammate Terron Armstead on his podcast.

“At the end of the day, I feel like that decision is based upon how I feel and where my mindset is at the moment,” Hill said on “The Set with Terron Armstead” podcast released Thursday. “Right now, I’m happy being with my kids. I’m happy with the career that I’ve had. I love playing football. I love it, but it takes a lot. … It takes a lot on you mentally, it takes a lot on you physically. I’m at the point now where I’m just like, I need to have a conversation with mom, family, everybody.”

Hill’s injury occurred during the third quarter of a Monday Night Football game after he caught a 10-yard pass from Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. After the play, Dolphins medical staff rushed to his aid and an air cast was placed on his leg before he was carted off the field.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said after the game that Hill was in good spirits following his injury.

“It’s such a terrible experience when you go out and see guys when they have issues like that,” McDaniel told reporters after the game. “But he immediately had wide eyes and was talking, ‘I’m good, just make sure the guys get this win.’ He was focused on the team.”

Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, is in his 10th NFL season. Prior to his injury last month, he had missed just one game in his four seasons with the Dolphins.

He also previously played six seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs, where he earned six consecutive Pro Bowl selections and won Super Bowl LIV in 2020.

For his career, Hill has 819 receptions for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns, as well as 114 rushing attempts for 819 yards and seven touchdowns, in 145 games.
