FBI investigates as NBA-mafia conspiracy widens
The FBI has accused some big-name NBA players and coaches of partaking in an illegal sports betting operation worth tens of millions of dollars.
So, which players do the FBI think are involved?
Current Miami Heat guard Terry “Scary Terry” Rozier has been accused of faking injury to influence betting odds.
Bonafide legend of the game and current Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups allegedly helped set-up rigged poker games.
Meanwhile, former NBA star and assistant coach Damon Jones, allegedly leaked unpublicised team information to gamblers. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
The ongoing FBI investigation also alleges these big players are in cahoots with the American Mafia, from the Bonanno family to the Gambino family.
There are renewed calls to ban sports betting … but, for now, all bets are off on how this saga will unfold.
