Any fruit for Spurs at Bramley Docks?
The Spurs Odyssey Flag
Spurs travel to Bramley Docks, Liverpool for our first away visit against Everton at their new stadium, but will the trip bear any fruit?
Everton's new home (capacity 52,888) was announced in May as theHill Dickinson Stadium. The sponsorship deal with the international commercial law firm, understood to be worth about £10 million a year, is claimed to be one of the largest stadium naming rights agreements in Europe. The "Toffees" attendance figures have averaged 51,883 for their first four home Premier League games.
Goodison Park remains and Everton have transferred the ownership to their women's team. Spurs Women were the first team to visit the stadium in competition this season.
Iliman Ndiaye was the scorer of the final Premier League goal at Goodison Park in May and the scorer of the first Premier League goal at the new stadium in Everton's first game of the season, when they beat Brighton 2-0.
Born in Rouen, France, but a Senegalese International, Ndiaye's career began in England via Boreham Wood, Sheffield United and even Hyde United. He spent one season at Marseille before being signed by Everton in July last year.
Everton's home form (won 2, drawn 2) almost matches Spurs' away form (won 3, drawn 1). Both teams are unbeaten in this regard and a good game is in prospect.
Jack Grealish (signed on loan from Man City) has been a popular arrival and recorded two assists in his first start for Everton in the win over Brighton. He was subsequently named as Premier League Player of the Month for the first time in his career. Grealish scored Everton's 93rd minute winner against Palace in his last game on October 5th. That was Palace's first of two defeats in 14 games played this season.
Everton were knocked out of the League Cup by Wolves, and will be fresher than Spurs due to their one game a week programme until December. This will be Everton's 11th and Spurs' 14th game of the season. SKY have chosen us for Sunday's 4.30pm kick-off.
Everton's February loan deal for 22-year-old Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz was made permanent in the summer. Other transfer business came quite late. 23-year-old 6ft 5in striker Thierno Barry was signed from Villarreal. Teenage left back Adam Aznou was signed from Bayern Munich and has mainly been involved with the U-21 side. Goalkeeper Mark Travers from Bournemouth is Jordan Pickford's back-up. Pickford has just signed a new contract, valid till 2029.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall - once at Leicester - signed from Chelsea, and 19-year-old Tyler Dibling arrived from relegated Southampton.
Last season, in David Moyes second game after his return, Everton won their first home league game against Spurs since Moyes had been in charge in December 2012. On that occasion Andre Villas-Boas had been in charge of Spurs, who took a 76th minute lead through Clint Dempsey. Everton scored two late goals through Steven Pienaar and Nikica Jelavic. Pienaar had returned to Goodison Park after a 12 month spell with Spurs between January 2011 and 2012.
When we met in January, "The Toffees" were just one point above the relegation zone. Moyes led his club to a climb up the table finishing in 13th place, their highest finish since 2020/21 and the first time they finished above Spurs since the 2013/14 season when the clubs finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Moyes earned enough points (31) in his 20 matches to ensure safety, even without those accumulated by the team under Sean Dyche.
Everton have now managed just two wins in our last 25 League meetings.
On May 18th, Everton's men's team played their last game at Goodison Park and beat bottom club Southampton 2-0. It was an emotional last home game witnessed by a packed house with thousands on the surrounding streets to savour the atmosphere.
Everton were one of the 12 founding members of the Football League, but didn't play at Goodison Park until 1892.
David Moyes took charge of his 700th game in the Premier League (430 Everton, 34 Manchester United, 38 Sunderland, 198 West Ham United) away to Brighton last season, becoming the third manager to reach that figure in the competition after Arsene Wenger (828) and Alex Ferguson (810).
Spurs' had their first 0-0 draw in 125 games on Wednesday night in Monaco. Their last Premier League 0-0 draw was in April 2022 at Brentford. The only other 0-0 that season was at Goodison Park in November 2021!
The Spurs team news is in and none of Romero, Udogie or Solanke are match fit yet. It would seem Romero is closest to returning. Hence it seems that only Mathys Tel will be added to the squad for Sunday after Wednesday's trip to Monaco. Thomas Frank just has to shake up that squad. I imagine Djed Spence will start and perhaps Pape Sarr will get a first club start since 30th September. Of course, I hope for a Spurs win and recklessly predict 2-0!
Did you know? - In October 2004 Noe Pamarot scored his only Premier League goal for Spurs in a 1-0 win at Goodison Park. Pamarot also scored an FA Cup goal at Nottingham Forest in a 3-0 5th Round win in March 2005.
Craig Pawson referees Spurs for the 36th time and for the first time since our defeat at Chelsea in April. the last time Mr. Pawson had charge of a Spurs win was our 4-1 home win over Aston Villa last November. Like Spurs, this will be Mr Pawson's first time on the pitch at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
