What Is the NBA Emirates Cup?
The NBA Emirates Cup is part of the league’s In-Season Tournament, where all 30 teams compete for a spot in an eight-team, single-elimination bracket.
During the first six weeks of the season, the league divides teams into six groups of five—organized by conference but not by division. Each team plays four Cup games, facing every other team in its group once. These games count toward the regular-season standings.
The winner of each group, along with two wildcard teams (one from each conference), advances to the knockout stage. The final four teams then compete at a neutral site in Las Vegas, starting in December. Players on the championship team each earn over $500,000.
Teams that reach the final play 83 regular-season games, while those eliminated earlier continue with their standard 82-game schedule.
The Los Angeles Lakers won the first NBA Cup in 2023, and the Milwaukee Bucks claimed the title in 2024.
