The Dallas Cowboys will be without cornerback Trevon Diggs for a second consecutive game due to a concussion he suffered at home on Oct. 16 after he was officially ruled out on Friday afternoon. Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson (elbow/shoulder) will also not travel to Denver and has been ruled out.
Center Cooper Beebe (ankle), tackle Tyler Guyton (glute), safety Juanyeh Thomas (migraine), tackle Ajani Cornelius (knees) and defensive end Marshawn Kneeland are all questionable to play on Sunday against the Broncos.
It still remains unclear how exactly Diggs suffered his concussion. A team source says that he came into the facility on Oct. 17 with a visible mark on his head and was showing concussion symptoms. He was deemed to indeed have the injury by team doctors and was sent home to recover. He was in the locker room during the media availability on Wednesday with a ski mask covering his face and a hoodie on. He did not comment when approached by reporters.
“What I can report is that he’s still in the protocol,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on Friday. “When you guys get an opportunity to talk to Trevon, you can talk to him. We have more information, but I’ll let him when he’s ready and able to talk about it.”
When asked if a stint on the injured reserve list is a possibility, Schottenheimer did not rule it out.
“We’re going to keep all options open,” he said. “I don’t want to get too far ahead of this thing. All injuries are different. You never know how these things are going to play themselves out. Again, you got to do what’s best for the team. It’d be a little premature to say that, but we’ll see.”
As for Beebe, he is hoping to get back on the field for the first time since suffering a lateral ankle sprain and foot injury against the New York Giants. After missing five games, his 21-day practice window was opened earlier this week, and it is going to be a late-in-the-week decision to see if he will be able to play against the Broncos.
“He’s borderline right now,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Friday. “We’ll make that call [on Saturday].”
If Beebe cannot go against the Broncos, he is expected to be ready for the team’s next game on Nov. 3 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and rookie cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. each had their 21-day practice windows opened this week as well, but neither are ready to participate in a game just yet as they work back up to play speed. The expectation remains for both that they will make their season debuts (and NFL debut in Revel’s case) on Nov. 17 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Both were officially ruled out of the game against the Denver Broncos on Friday.
