Report: Seahawks Have Stunning Stance on Riq Woolen

With the 2025 NFL trade deadline coming up quickly, the Seattle Seahawks are going to be an interesting team to keep an eye on.

Riq Woolen, the team’s star cornerback, has been widely rumored to be available. There have been quite a few teams mentioned as potential trade destinations for Woolen. Whether or not the Seahawks will actually end up moving him remains to be seen.

Throughout his first 54 career games, the 26-year-old cornerback has played like a star. However, this season his role has diminished and Seattle simply doesn’t seem to want to keep him around.

So far, Woolen has racked up 181 total tackles to go along with a forced fumble, four fumble recoveries, 11 interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 44 defended passes. Those numbers would place him high on a trade wish list for many teams. There are numerous teams who badly need help at the cornerback position.

That being said, a shocking report has come out about the Seahawks’ stance on Woolen.

ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler has reported that Seattle has been wanting to trade Woolen for quite some time. The franchise does not believe he fits in with the current direction of the team. He shared a quote from an NFL executive about where the Seahawks stand.

"[The Seahawks have] been wanting to move him for a while," the NFL executive said. "He doesn't fit what (head coach Mike Macdonald) wants to do."

Even though Seattle doesn’t see him as a legitimate fit moving forward, trading Woolen is a surprise. Finding young cornerbacks who can play at the level Woolen has shown is difficult. If this is truly how Seattle feels, it would be shocking to see Woolen stick around with the team past the deadline.

Over the next week, trade rumblings will reach a high point. Plenty of players around the NFL could be included in trade discussions. Woolen is likely going to be one of them.

Expect to hear more about Woolen and the Seahawks in the near future. For now, it would be wise for Seattle fans to begin preparing to see the young cornerback on his way out of town soon.
