Packers’ injury report development continues odd trend of players getting hurt in practice

The Green Bay Packers‘ injury report seems to be well stocked every week, populated by familiar names and adding new ones. This week’s addition, which appeared on Friday, was Matthew Golden with a hip injury seemingly suffered in practice.

Tucker Kraft (knee) and Brandon McManus (quad) are two names that come to mind as players to injure themselves during practice. These things happen, of course, but it’s starting to frustrate fans who have already seen a number of regular players go down in games.

What’s going on in practice?

One team writer, Elite Berkovits of Packer Report with 247Sports, has had enough.

So Matthew Golden’s hip injury didn’t show up until after Friday’s practice…

Golden joins Dontayvion Wicks (out, calf) and Christian Watson (knee, questionable) among receivers on the injury report. Running back Josh Jacobs is still dealing with a calf issue, though that didn’t hold him out of last week’s game in Arizona.

Golden is the Packers’ second-leading receiver (18 catches, 23 targets) behind Romeo Doubs (24 catches, 36 targets). And he has only been trending up (16 catches, 243 yards since Week 3).

Even if Watson comes back, it seems unlikely that he will be 100%. He might be there physically, but just getting back into the rhythm of real games could take a week or two. Wicks hasn’t been much of a factor recently, but his absence doesn’t help. The Packers need Golden to diversify an offense short on natural deep threats beyond him and Watson.

There’s nothing to suggest that Golden won’t go, just a questionable designation, so hopefully he suits up without issue against the Steelers.
