Basketball is now a global sport, and the EuroLeague's consistent efforts to sign veteran NBA talents make it more of a reality each passing day.
After his initial departure from the New York Knicks this past offseason and short 2025-26 preseason stint with the Indiana Pacers, 10-year veteran guard Cam Payne has joined the free agent market once again.
Upon his release from the Pacers on Saturday, The Stein Line's Marc Stein recently reported that Payne has since become a top target for a EuroLeague squad in dire need of an NBA-caliber point guard.
"Serbia's Partizan Belgrade has emerged as a serious suitor for veteran guard Cam Payne, The Stein Line has learned," Stein shared via X/Twitter on Friday.
"Payne went to training camp with Indiana and is the latest established NBA name pursued by a EuroLeague club in the wake of an injury to Partizan's Carlik Jones."
After 10 seasons in the NBA, the 31-year-old guard may be headed for another pro league in the near future.
Serbia's Partizan Belgrade was handed some unfortunate news when their star point guard and former NBA talent, Carlik Jones, went down with a broken bone in his foot, an injury that could have him sidelined for up to three months.
With Payne conveniently popping up on the open market, now would be the best time for the team to snag another solid contributor with plenty of NBA experience.
In 72 appearances for the Knicks in 2024-25, Payne averaged 6.9 points and 2.8 assists while knocking down 36.3% of his 3.6 attempts from three-point range.
The former No. 14 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder has made stops with seven different franchises over the course of his 10-year tenure in the association.
