New York Knicks say they don't endorse Mamdani, send cease and desist over ad

WASHINGTON (TNND) — The New York Knicks basketball team sent a “cease and desist” letter to Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani for using its logo in a campaign advertisement.

“The Knicks want to make it clear that we do not endorse Mr. Mamdani for Mayor. We will pursue all legal remedies to enforce our rights,” the New York Ball official page wrote on X Friday.

An advertisement was aired during a basketball game that showed the team’s orange and blue logo that replaced the word “Knicks” with “Zohran.”

There was a caption that read, “This is our year. This is our time.”

The New York Post obtained a letter from the Knicks to Mamdani that requested his campaign remove the Knicks’ intellectual property from their advertising.

The ads have all been removed as of Friday, the Post reports.

Knicks owner James Dolan has not weighed in on the situation.

Mamdani is expected to become the next mayor of New York City in the upcoming election next month, likely defeating opponents Curtis Sliwa and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

"If he [Sliwa] dropped out, he's not going to win. And not looking too good for Cuomo either," President Donald Trump said, weighing in on the race.

"Maybe if he dropped out, Cuomo would have a little bit of a chance," he continued. "But not much. Because it looks like the lead is—it’s not a great lead, but it’s big enough that he should be able to win."
