The Tennessee Titans have developed one of the roughest collapses in the league. Serious questions should be raised about whether they have become the worst-performing team in the NFL. Trauma and a change of heart have decimated any flow and brought interim head coach Mike McCoy fighting with the scoreboard and a waning belief system.

Tennessee Titans tight end Gunnar Helm (84) is pushed out of bounds by Indianapolis Colts outside linebacker Zaire Franklin (44) during the second quarter at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025.
On October 21, 2025,ESPN’s latest Power Rankingsplaced the Tennessee Titans at No. 31, just above the winless New York Jets (0–7). The slide is steep and telling. The Titans have lost 12 of their last 13 games, reflecting their systemic issues.
McCoy’s team stumbled out of the gates once again. “We just didn’t execute early,” he admitted postgame, as the Patriots, led by ex-Titans coach Mike Vrabel, built a comfortable lead and never looked back. The Titans’ turnovers and missed assignments turned a potential statement game into another disappointment.
While the Titans’ 1–6 record is alarming, they have faced some of the NFL’s most formidable opponents, including the 6–1 Indianapolis Colts, who sit at No. 2 in the same rankings, just behind the Detroit Lions. Even so, it’s challenging to justify optimism when the offense ranks among the least efficient and the defense falters in key moments.
The middle tier of struggling teams, the Saints and Ravens, shows the narrow margin between the bottom dwellers. “Quite honestly, each of the bottom three teams could be interchangeable,” noted ESPN’s analysis, reinforcing how close Tennessee is to the league’s basement.
One emerging positive, however, is rookie receiver Chimere Dike. He caught his first career touchdown from Cam Ward against New England and has steadily become a dual threat on offense and special teams. As ESPN’s Turron Davenportobserved, “*Dike has become a playmaker for the Titans both on special teams and more recently on offense.*” With veteran Tyler Lockett gone, Dike’s role expands as the young offense searches for identity.
The Titans remain afloat but barely. Their record, ranking, and regression leave little doubt that this is a franchise in free fall. If results don’t shift soon, the “worst team in football” tag may no longer be a debate; it’ll be a headline.
