Jarrod Bowen gives brutally honest assessment after Leeds United beat West Ham

Leeds United got back on track after their shocking defeat to Burnley last weekend. Daniel Farke’s men bounced back with a huge win over West Ham on Friday night.

Before the game, there were whispers that Farke’s future was under serious scrutiny due to recent results. But the Whites pulled a big victory to silence the doubters. The Hammers were a threat as they had picked up all their points away from home, but not this time. Brenden Aaronson netted his first goal of the season for Leeds to open the scoring.

After tonight’s result, the Hammers are still looking for their first win under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo. They still have just four points this season, and are the worst defensive team and the second worst attack in the competition. West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen was frustrated with what he saw on the pitch, and made his opinion known:

“Obviously not good enough. The way we defended the goal was really poor, we have not been brave enough and nobody is doing their job.

“We could have got back in the game, we did in the end but it was too late and it’s simply not good enough.

“The only way this is going to change is if we roll our sleeves up and fight, but it’s easy to say and hard to do sometimes.

“This is the Premier League, nobody is going to give you anything. This is the reality, we are in a desperate situation, second bottom and we are in trouble in.

“We have to go out there and fight, just as a team. Not even just performances, we need to win ugly but we are not doing that, we are not playing well and we’re not getting results.

“We have spoken as group, to each other and had open conversations. We need to find that drive from within because the league table shows we are not doing enough. We have one win from nine, we have to improve.”

Elland Road proving a fortress

Leeds have recorded three wins this season, two of them have come in front of the home crowd. At the start of the season, Farke urged the fans to make the stadium a fortress and they have obliged. Now, home games can be seen as huge opportunities to pick up points in the chase for survival.
