Seahawks re-sign TE Saubert 2 days after release

The Seattle Seahawks re-signed veteran run-blocking tight end Eric Saubert to their 53-man roster on Friday, according to the NFL’s transactions report.

Seattle released the 31-year-old Saubert on Wednesday, but ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported then that the move was “merely procedural” and the team planned to re-sign him soon.

The roster shuffling comes during the Seahawks’ Week 8 bye and with the NFL’s Nov. 4 trade deadline just around the corner. Seattle improved to 5-2 with a win over the Houston Texans on Monday night.

A ninth-year veteran, Saubert has served as the Seahawks’ third tight end this season behind AJ Barner and rookie Elijah Arroyo. He has played 34% of Seattle’s offensive snaps and has logged the sixth-most special teams snaps on the team.

Saubert ranks 24th out of 76 tight ends in Pro Football Focus run block grading. He also has one catch for 12 yards.

Saubert signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in March after spending his first eight seasons with seven different teams.
