**West Ham’s loss to Leeds cements their place in relegation scrap.**
Although it’s still too early to say who’s definitely going down, you’d struggle to find a team that’s ever looked more likely to face the drop than West Ham this season.
Their defeat at home to Brentford was wounding, but a win against Leeds could have kick started their season. Unfortunately, the 2-1 loss at Elland Road means they’re now firmly in a relegation battle.
The first-half performance was nearly as bad as the Brentford match; the hosts could have easily been 4-0 up going into the break. While the second 45’ wasn’t great (or remotely good for that matter) , it was certainly better than anything that has been seen since the Everton game.
It’s the same issues time and time again though. There’s just no fight in the players, there’s no pace, there’s no leaders, and there’s no core. The midfield and defence really is non-existent. Above all else, Nuno once again picked an embarrassing starting XI.
Poor Ollie Scarles got rinsed at right back last time out, so why on earth was he played there again? It makes zero sense, there’s not a logical argument for it. On top of this, the midfield of Soucek and Irving was a disaster waiting to happen.
There’s only so much he can do with a squad of players who do not care about the club, but he didn’t need to make it harder for himself.
Given their relatively poor start to the season, the Newcastle game is now massive. Realistically, our Irons need to go and get three points at home, something they’ve failed to do for 8 months. This has to be followed up with a win against Burnley too. Otherwise, looking at their following games, there’s absolutely no where they’re going to get points for a long time.
