The Cleveland Browns hosted a handful of player tryouts on Friday, including one for a former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback.
Zac Jackson of The Athletic reported that Cleveland brought in signal-caller Seth Henigan, a 22-year-old undrafted player out of Memphis who joined the Jaguars earlier in 2025. Another notable name on the list of Browns’ player tryouts was wide receiver Brenden Rice, formerly of the University of Southern California and the son of NFL great Jerry Rice.
Cleveland currently has four quarterbacks on the roster, including starter Dillon Gabriel and backup Shedeur Sanders, both of whom are rookies. Bailey Zappe is on the practice squad and serving as the team’s third-string/emergency QB on Sundays. Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson is on the Reserve/Unable to Perform List (PUP) as he continues to rehabilitate from a twice-torn Achilles tendon.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski is an offensive-minded leader and Cleveland’s play-caller, and may consider carrying an extra QB on the practice squad. It is also possible that the team gave Henigan a look because it is considering replacing Zappe as its third-string option.
There has been some trade buzz surrounding Sanders in recent days, with the league’s deadline looming on Nov. 4, which could also be part of the Browns’ thinking if the franchise brass is really considering moving on from the fifth-round pick before ever playing him a single regular-season snap.
Henigan stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 215 pounds. He completed 64% of his pass attempts for 14,226 yards and 104 touchdowns through the air across four years as the starter (50 games) at Memphis.
