Eagles Linked to Trade for 2 Star LBs Before NFL Deadline

The Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline is quickly approaching, and several contenders are hoping to bolster their squads for a late-season playoff push.

The reigning Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles are 5-2 heading into Sunday’s Week 8 rematch against the New York Giants. After that, Howie Roseman and the organization can turn their full attention toward the trade market during their Week 9 bye.

The Eagles have plenty of draft capital to work with, possessing extra third and fifth-round picks. With that in mind, the organization is expected to target some defensive players before next week’s deadline.

NFL.com writer Eric Edholm identified the Eagles as a buyer, linking them to a potential trades for Miami Dolphins linebackers Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips.

“Even with Nolan Smith and Jakorian Bennett expected back in November, and the recent re-addition of Brandon Graham, the Eagles figure to target defensive help — with pass rusher perhaps the highest priority,” Edholm writes. “Dolphins pass rushers Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips both have experience with Eagles DC Vic Fangio, although fitting them under the salary cap might be a challenge.

“Then again, if Roseman wants something, he usually goes out and gets it.”

The Dolphins are 1-6 to start the 2025 NFL season, making them an ideal sell candidate before the trade deadline.

In his first seven games back since recovering from a torn ACL, Chubb has recorded four sacks, seven QB hits, five tackles for loss, 20 combined tackles and one forced fumble. The two-time Pro-Bowl linebacker led the NFL with six forced fumbles before suffering his knee injury in Week 17 of the 2023 season.

Phillips has two sacks, four QB hits, 19 combined tackles and one fumble recovery through seven games this season. He played 17 games in each of his first two NFL seasons (2021-22), but has since yet to clear eight games in a season as he’s dealt with a variety of injury issues.

The Eagles will kickoff against the Giants at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
