Kansas resident loses $1,200 to fake NFL tickets on Facebook

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A Kansas resident lost $1,200 after purchasing fake tickets to a Denver Broncos game through a Facebook group, according to the Better Business Bureau.

The buyer found the tickets through “Denver Broncos Verified Tickets Exchange,” a Facebook group that promises “100 percent verified sellers, no scams.” After sending $1,200, the tickets never arrived.

The incident highlights the risks of buying tickets through private online sales, where buyers have little to no protection and no way to guarantee the tickets are authentic.

“Anybody can really join this group, because it’s public,” said Josh Planos of the Better Business Bureau. “With public groups, there’s no verification. So, I don’t know how they would go about policing that activity to begin with.”

The group’s moderators did not respond to requests for comment about how they verify sellers.

The Better Business Bureau recommends sticking with trusted sources like Ticketmaster or official team websites when buying tickets online.
