Why Bronny James isn't playing for Lakers despite being healthy, on roster

The Los Angeles Lakers are without LeBron James to start the 2025-26 NBA season due to injury.

As for Bronny James? He's active and available.

But in the Lakers' first game of the season, on Wednesday night against the Golden State Warriors, Bronny didn't play.

The Lakers have their second game on Friday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Why isn't Bronny James playing?

Bronny James simply isn't in the Lakers' rotation.

He's on the NBA roster and active and healthy. Head coach JJ Redick just isn't putting him into the game right now.

The Lakers' have a deep and healthy perimeter depth chart.

Options that are clearly ahead of Bronny include Luka Doncic, Marcus Smart, Gabe Vincent, Dalton Knecht, Austin Reaves and Jake LaRavia.

With maybe just one injury, Bronny could break into that group.

But as long as those six guys are healthy, it'll be hard for Bronny to play much at all except in mop-up time.

He's still got an NBA future ahead of him, but he'll need something to break his way right now to get his next chance.
