Robert Green says Leeds United ‘didn’t have to work hard’ as they beat West Ham United 2-1 at Elland Road.

The Whites struck twice in the opening 15 minutes with Brenden Aaronson opening the scoring before Joe Rodon doubled their advantage. Daniel Farke’s side could have been out of sight by half-time but couldn’t add to their lead.

It was a similar story in the second half as Leeds controlled the match without getting a third goal. West Ham made some late inroads and Mateus Fernandes got one back after 90 minutes to ensure a nervy period of stoppage time.

The Whites held on to record their third win of the season in the Premier League, consigning the hapless Hammers to a seventh defeat from nine league matches. Green, who played for both clubs, said: "They (West Ham) didn't play well and they had chances.

“This isn't a great Leeds team in terms of the Premier League. Leeds didn't have to work hard for their chances.

"West Ham didn't play well and got some chances. You're looking at it and saying just get the basics, get the fundamentals right and you'll give yourself a chance. They're not doing that right now."

The former England goalkeeper added on Sky Sports: "Where do we start? It was just a repeat from Monday night from the start. A shape we didn't understand, inverted full-backs on the wrong side. It didn't work on Monday and they went out and did the same, and it cost them (West Ham) for the goals .

"Again, they could have been four down at half-time. They just didn't turn up.

"I don't know how you could make five substitutions and have a better XI and a better shape than what you started the game with.

"Nothing makes sense. There's no joined up thinking. The mistakes. You can go on and on.”

Former Elland Road winger Stuart Dallas said: "West Ham were really poor. They didn't deserve anything from the end of the game.

"But normally Leeds would score three or four goals. They didn't. And 2-0 is such a dangerous scoreline.

"But a big result. A good response after last week."
