Manchester United are on the verge of a crucial clash against Brighton on Saturday. United boss Ruben Amorim will hope his team can build on their triumph over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.
The victory marked the first time in Amorim’s tenure that United had won consecutive Premier League games, leading the Red Devils to set their eyes on climbing the table. The United boss will hope that the team’s lack of European football and increased time on the training pitch can lead to more consistently positive results.
One United player who was in Champions League action earlier this week was Marcus Rashford. He scored twice and provided an assist in Barcelona's 6-1 win over Olympiacos, taking his overall goal contributions to 11 in 12 games for the Spanish club.
The England international has embraced life at Barcelona since completing his loan move away from Old Trafford. Rashford recently spoke openly about his future at United, having not been part of Amorim’s plans since his temporary move to Aston Villa at the start of the year.
Marcus Rashford makes feelings clear
Marcus Rashford has not hidden his desire to remain at Barcelona beyond his current loan deal. Barcelona have the option to sign Rashford permanently for £26million next summer and the forward has quickly impressed for Hansi Flick’s side.
Rashford’s impressive display against Olympiacos came at an ideal time, as he prepares for his first El Clasico against Real Madrid on Sunday. He showed signs of getting back to his best during his time at Villa last term and seemingly has no desire to return to United.
"It was so many years in one place," Rashford told ESPN. "People forget this, but 24 years, 23 years of my life was with Manchester United.

“So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me and yeah, I'm enjoying everything."
When asked if he would want to stay with Barcelona beyond this season, Rashford responded: "Oh yeah, for sure. I'm enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player is an honour."
Marcos Rojo injures team-mate
Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo endured a nightmare evening as Racing Club lost 1-0 to Flamengo in the first leg of their Libertadores semi-final on Thursday. A late Jorge Carrascal goal settled the match but there was still worse to come for the Argentinian side.
In the final moments of the game, Rojo was challenging for a high ball when the ex-United star’s outstretched elbow connected with his Racing Club teammate Santiago Sosa. A subsequent club statement revealed that midfielder Sosa had broken part of his jaw.
The Racing Club statement read: “Santiago Sosa was transferred last night to a medical centre where he underwent tests. The player remained under observation, was discharged this morning, and presents a fracture of the right upper maxillary sinus.
“He will be evaluated in Buenos Aires by a maxillofacial surgeon to determine the therapeutic approach.”
Rojo was signed by United from Sporting CP in 2014 but struggled to establish himself as a regular for the club. He made 122 appearances for United, winning the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League during his six-and-a-half-year stint at Old Trafford. The 35-year-old signed for Boca Juniors in February 2021 and joined Racing Club this summer.
