The elder James did not play in Friday’s game, as he has been ruled out for the first three to four weeks of the NBA season due to sciatica on his right side.

Bryce James may not play at all this season, as Arizona men’s basketball coach Tommy Lloyd said at Big 12 Media Days on Wednesday that redshirting James is a “possibility.”

The Wildcats played in an exhibition on Saturday and James was held to just the final 1:32 of the blowout. Arizona has another exhibition on Monday before opening nonconference play against No. 3 Florida on Nov. 3.

Bronny James, a 3-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, originally committed to the Wildcats on Jan. 1.

Bronny’s commitment came after the James family visited Arizona for the Wildcats’ home game against Duke last season. The James family came away impressed with Lloyd and his program after visiting the majority of the other former Pac-12 schools. Bronny ultimately picked Arizona after also receiving offers from Ohio State and Duquesne.

“It was his decision to make, and he went where he felt comfortable,” LeBron James told reporters several days after his son’s commitment. “Coach Lloyd is a straight shooter. Gave him exactly what they believe in him, what they thought about him as a person, as a player. We’re happy to be part of the Bear Down community now.”
