‘Struggled’… Opta supercomputer runs Man Utd vs Brighton simulation 10,000 times and final prediction speaks volumes

Opta has used its supercomputer to predict the outcome of the Premier League clash between Manchester United and Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Brighton are in 10th place in the Premier League table ahead of their visit to Old Trafford and the Seagulls have won two of their last five league matches.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are one point clear of Fabian Hurzeler’s men and the ninth-place Red Devils have won three of their last five Premier League fixtures.

The Red Devils have seen an uptick in form in recent weeks, with United defeating Sunderland 2-0 in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford earlier this month.

Following United’s result over Sunderland ahead of the October international break, the Red Devils visited Anfield last Sunday and defeated Liverpool 2-1 on the day.

The Red Devils’ upcoming encounter with Brighton has been put to the test in Opta’s supercomputer, which did 10,000 pre-match simulations to determine the outcome.

According to Opta, even the supercomputer “struggled to split this pair” after running its huge simulation for Saturday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

However, the results did reveal that one team would come out on top, with the supercomputer backing United to take home all three Premier League points.

United have a 37.7 per cent chance of beating Brighton after the simulation test, while the Seagulls have been backed with a 35.9 per cent chance of winning.

The supercomputer revealed that there is only a 26.4 per cent chance of Premier League sides United and Brighton sharing the points from a draw at Old Trafford.

What Ruben Amorim expects from Brighton in Man Utd’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford

United manager Ruben Amorim took part in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon at the Carrington training complex.

The 40-year-old Red Devils head coach admitted that he expects a tough – and telling – test for his side when Brighton visit Old Trafford on Saturday.

“It is going to be a very difficult game,” Amorim said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“Brighton are really fun to watch, they are really good on build-up; they are really strong on transitions in every aspect of the game.”

He added: “They are doing well at set pieces this season, so they are a team who are really complete.

“We need to be really smart and to face that game with a real focus on everything that we do because they are a very strong team.

“You can see with how they play the game. They are really intense; the quality is there.

“They believe a lot [in] what they are doing even under pressure, so I am a huge fan of him [Hurzeler].”

United have lost three of their eight Premier League matches this season, while Brighton have suffered only two defeats ahead of their clash with the Red Devils.
