'It is out of those two': Troy Deeney picks who will finish in 18th place - Leeds or West Ham

Friday night, under the lights, Elland Road. It gave Leeds United fans hope and Daniel Farke’s side duly delivered, securing a 2-1 win over West Ham – but Troy Deeney thinks Leeds remain in danger.

Goals from Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon inside the first 20 minutes did the damage, as Leeds ended a run of just one win in their previous seven Premier League games by securing a third win of the season.

Mateus Fernandes came off the bench for Nuno Espirito Santo’s struggling West Ham and scored, but it was only a consolation for the Portuguese talent. A huge win for Leeds that takes the Whites into 13th.

But only nine of 38 games have been played, and there is still plenty left to do. However, for now, Leeds have 11 points from nine games and sit comfortably above the point-a-game curve needed to stay up.

Troy Deeney still “concerned” for Leeds in fight against the drop

Before the game, Leeds were sitting in 16th having lost two successive matches. Confidence was low, the complete opposite of what Leeds fans will be thinking about their chances, having beaten West Ham.

Speaking to TalkSPORT ahead of the game, Troy Deeney was asked which teams he thinks will go down at the end of the season. He thinks Burnley and Wolves will be relegated, but 18th place is still up in the air.

“I think Burnley will go down. I believe Wolves go down. Then it is out of these two, for me. I think Brentford and Sunderland will be okay. I am still concerned about Leeds and West Ham,” Deeney said.

Leeds are on same amount of points as 2020-21 after nine games

Little over four years ago, Leeds finished in ninth place in the Premier League table. Marcelo Bielsa was already seen as an iconic figure in Leeds’ history, but after that season, the Argentine became a legend.

Well, that season, Leeds had 11 points after their first nine games. Wins against Fulham, Sheffield United and Villa came in the first nine, while Bielsa watched Leeds lose to Liverpool, Wolves, Leicester and Palace.

Interestingly, Farke has now guided Leeds to the same amount of points from the same amount of games and exactly the same results – three wins, two draws, four losses. It is a good start, but plenty is left to do.
