The Celtics offense is going to need a boost with their 3-point shooting this season to win games but sharpshooter stepped up in an expanded role in Friday’s loss at Madison Square Garden.
Sam Hauser was bright spot for the Celtics in the loss to be Friday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.
Hauser bounced back from an uneven opener to knock down a game-high six 3s, finishing with 18 points in Boston’s 105-95 loss. Hauser was red hot with several deep makes from above the break going 6-of-10 from the 3-point range as the Knicks focused in on stopping Celtics ball handlers.
The fifth-year forward was one of the few Celtics that had a strong shooting night from the perimeter at Madison Square Garden as the team collectively shot just 34.1 percent from 3-point range (15-of-44). The rest of Boston’s roster shot just 26.5 percent from downtown, the second straight rough shooting night for the roster as a whole.
Hauser is now shooting 50 percent from 3-point range on the season and should continue to see additional looks from the perimeter after being inserted into the starting five this year in place of an injured Jayson Tatum.
Hauser and the Celtics will get a chance to bounce back next on Sunday afternoon as they face off against a tough Pistons defense in Detroit.
