He covers various topics, including how much he’s loving life in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old joined Sunderland in a €10.5m deal from NEC Nijmegen in the summer. In a transfer window full of big deals for the Black Cats, he was among their more low-key arrivals.
He’s quickly proven to be brilliant value for money, though, establishing himself as number one under Regis Le Bris from day one. That’s a position he’s more than earned.
Eight games in to the season, Roefs has four clean sheets to his name. Sunderland sit seventh in the table, just a point outside the top three. They’ve already beaten Southampton’s tally from the entirety of last season. Their new goalkeeper has been a key part of that early success.
He’s quickly proven to be ready for Premier League football, with a series of commanding performances and praise to his name.
Roefs is loving the move so far and admits he thinks that Premier League football may be ideal for him.
_“The atmosphere, the sound you experience in our stadium. I’ve never experienced it in any other Premier League stadium so far,”_ he said.
_“It all happened so quickly. I couldn’t have wished for a better start. But I’ll remain the same person and I’ll continue to do the same thing._
_“The Premier League style suits me; that’s to my advantage. Lots of crosses, physical. Plus, freedom on the ball, unlike in the Netherlands. I love it. I’m a goalkeeper who needs a bit of excitement. The more packed the stadium and the louder it gets, the better I perform.”_
