'We just connected': Benjamin Sesko says one Man Utd player helped him so much when he first signed

Benjamin Sesko has been a undeniable success at Manchester United so far this season, with his quick settling at Old Trafford aided by one man.

There was a very low bar of number nine quality for Benjamin Sesko to follow when he joined the club in the summer, after Rasmus Hojlund’s poor 2024-25.

Sesko joined Manchester United for £66m, arriving as one of the highest potential young strikers in Europe, and he has proven himself worthy of that billing so far.

After signing, Sesko was tipped to take the Premier League by storm, and while not quite doing this so far, the Slovenian has scored twice and his all-round performances are very encouraging.

Benjamin Sesko picks Diogo Dalot as Manchester United player who helped him settle

Sesko has been excellent for United, which stems from confidence and the environment he has stepped into, something which Rasmus Hojlund was cursed with from day one.

The squad right now appears to be the most harmonious in years and this must make it easy for new signings to settle.

Now, Sesko has spoken with Sky Sports about his time at Carrington thus far, picking out the one player who helped him settle.

“Diogo Dalot is one of them. He really helped me. We just connected. The start is obviously always difficult, it takes time obviously but he stepped up in the first days trying to help me and give me advice for certain stuff. He really helped me a lot.”

Dalot is part of Amorim’s leadership group, and things like this are key in the reasoning behind this decision to appoint him, despite his sometimes not perfect performances.

Benjamin Sesko has benefitted from Manchester United summer overhaul

When Sesko joined there were worries that he would suffer a similar fate to Hojlund, being inexperienced and arriving full of potential rather than ready made quality.

The difference is in how the two players have been set up by the club.

Sesko was put in a position to succeed by United, while Hojlund didn’t. The Slovenian was signed to be part of an attack with two of the best players in the Premier League in a new front three – Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Meanwhile, Hojlund had Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and an underperforming Marcus Rashford alongside him, which is a huge difference.

It explains why Sesko has been able to settle in, with no pressure, scoring some goals and offering plenty outside of purely contributions.

The future looks very bright for Sesko and United.
