Man United boss Ruben Amorim believes that Matheus Cunha possesses “something special.”
The Brazilian was widely praised following his performance against Liverpool last weekend, and while Amorim did pay tribute to Cunha’s ability, he still feels there is work to do on certain aspects of his game:
“He (Cunha) needs to improve a lot of things, especially defending, but he has something special, and he is a really important player for us”

“He can play in different positions, so I expect the same in the next game because, in our club, it’s really important to show it in every week.”
Cunha needs to add goals and assists to his game
While the 25-year-old has caught the eye with his ability on the ball, it has to be pointed out that he isn’t really offering much in terms of end product at the moment.
Cunha has yet to score a goal or provide an assist in a United shirt, and as well as improving his work rate, he will be looking to get on the scoresheet for his new club sooner rather than later.
Will Cunha start against Brighton?
Amorim’s remarks do suggest that the Brazilian international has yet to completely win over his manager.
Although Cunha started the 2-1 win over Liverpool last Sunday, he had been left on the bench for the previous game against Sunderland prior to the international break.
Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount are providing stern competition for places in the front three, so there is no guarantee that he will start against Brighton this weekend.
Even so, Amorim will be delighted to have a player like Cunha in his squad who has bags of ability and can be deployed in multiple different positions.
