When Brenden Aaronson was named in the Leeds United lineup to face Fulham last month, some fans disagreed with the decision. The midfielder is a player who always seems to draw criticism at the club.
Aaronson did admit before the season began that he had no idea if he was in the plans for this season. He started the campaign on the bench, limited to just substitute cameos. But when Farke called upon him for the Fulham game, he did his job. The Leeds boss said that Aaronson was in the team for his work rate and tactical role off the ball.

The defeat to Fulham felt like the last straw; Aaronson missed a big chance to draw the game level. So when he started on Friday night, the frustration continued. But against West Ham, he played arguably his best game this year and scored a goal. After the match, he had a few words for the fans:
“It’s huge for us here at Elland Road. Early goals keep the atmosphere going and the fans were fantastic today. They were behind us the whole game so we are really proud we could make them happy.
“It was huge for us, we have been a little unlucky I think for results so to stick it out and get the 2-1 win and 3 points was huge for us.
“I have been working really hard, putting in extra efforts in after training and last week I got a little unlucky with one but that’s how football is and you have just got to stick with it and I am proud of myself.
“Yeah I could have had another goal, a little unlucky, but I am happy to just get that one goal.”

Brenden Aaronson surprised everyone with how he played on Friday night. He looked unstoppable against a hapless West Ham side. He could have gotten more goals on the night with how he played. Two chances created and a 100% dribbles completed was the perfect response to people who did not even want him in the team this season. Hopefully he continues his form through the next few games.
