NUFC starting Xi v Fulham as Tonali decision made - three ruled out

Newcastle United confirmed starting XI v Fulham as Sandro Tonali decision made.

The Magpies have won consecutive matches in the Champions League and head into the Fulham game on the back of beating Benfica 3-0 at St James’ Park on Tuesday night.

Eddie Howe’s side have been free-scoring in Europe, having also won 4-0 away to Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels last month. But their form in the Premier League has been the opposite.

Newcastle sit 14th in the table, with their only two wins coming at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest, both of whom currently lie in the relegation zone. United lost 2-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Howe named three changes from the Brighton game and has made one change from the side that beat Benfica. That sees Jacob Ramsey drop out for Joelinton, who joins Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Miley in the midfield.

Newcastle United: Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman, Joelinton, Anthony Gordon, Malick Thiaw, Jacob Murphy, Nick Woltemade, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes (c), Lewis Miley.

Sandro Tonali on the bench for Newcastle United

Howe revealed at his pre-match press conference that Tonali was “touch and go” to play versus Fulham having struggled with illness this week.

Tonali started at Brighton and didn’t train ahead of the Benfica game. The Italian still wasn’t feeling well on Wednesday but has been passed fit to be among the substitutes.

Howe said: “After a game, you've got a couple of sore bodies to look at, but nothing serious, Sandro's still the player we're monitoring. He did train on Wednesday but didn't feel 100 per cent, so he's the one that's probably touch and go for the game.”#

Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa remain absent, while Lewis Hall is still sidelined despite being “very close” to a return, according to Howe.
