Before the season began, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley had his sights set on being the first running back in NFL history to run for over 2,000 yards in a season, more than once in a career. That feels like a faded memory now.
The 2025 season has Barkley trailing a bit on reaching that goal, as he has currently rushed for 369 yards and three touchdowns in seven games. For him to get to that 2,000-yard mark, he would have to average 163.1 yards per game. With the Eagles currently averaging 88.1 rushing yards per game this season, it seems like that dream can only be achieved in the game he's on the cover for, Madden 26.
For most players in the NFL, not being able to reach for history would upset them. Barkley has a different mindset as he doesn't care about the numbers. It's all about capturing that second Super Bowl.
"I'm not really a big numbers guy. Wasn't really good at numbers in school, either. People use numbers — what's the saying, men lie, women lie, numbers don't? — I don't really get caught up in that. I don't think it defines me as a player. I still know what I bring to the table. But I do know we have to be more efficient in the running game. That's something we're focused on. But at the end of the day, our whole goal is to go 6-2 and win another football game. Whatever that looks like, that's what matter."
Barkley continues to be the model player and leader on the Eagles
On a team that has a wide receiver who can't stop himself from making cryptic posts on social media when he doesn't get the ball, Barkley is not one who wants to bring attention to himself. While he has acknowledged that he wants to do more in the offense, he keeps the focus on the team.
Eagles fans can do the complaining for him, as everyone has been calling for offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo to run the ball more. Barkley's best game of the season in rushing yards is 88. That should not ever be the case.

With A.J. Brown and Cam Jurgens out for the Eagles' upcoming game against the New York Giants in Week 8, Barkley will be leaned on more than ever to help the Birds limp into the bye week with a win. It's on Patullo to get the ball in his star running back's hands.
