The New Orleans Saints are a prime candidate to sell at the trade deadline, but don't expect Chris Olave to be one of the pieces they move.
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the expectation is the Saints will hold on to Olave. Russini adds that the Saints are looking to extend the talented wide receiver, not trade him.
"Barring an unforeseen change, the Saints are not expected to move WR Chris Olave despite interested suitors. Last week, I reported that the two sides are discussing an extension," Russini reported.
This falls in line with other reports we've seen doubting the Saints' desire to trade Olave, who is by far the team's best wide receiver.
While New Orleans should be selling as much as possible, it's not that surprising that the team wants to hang on to Olave, who is young enough (25) to be in the team's long-term plans.
The two-time 1,000-yard receiver is under contract through 2026, so there's no fear of losing him in free agency next year. Adding to that, trading Olave would leave New Orleans' young quarterbacks with very limited options in the passing game.
The New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers have been two teams rumored to be in the market for a wide receiver, although reports have differed on the Giants.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has floated the Giants as a team that could acquire a wide receiver, but other teams around the league think it's also possible New York will prefer to hang on to its picks given that the team is in transition right now.
"They could use help for Jaxson Dart, but multiple teams I’ve spoken to believe the Giants would prefer to keep their draft picks as a team still in transition," Fowler reported.
New York lost its No. 1 wide receiver, Malik Nabers, for the season due to a torn ACL, leaving Jaxson Dart in a less-than ideal situation.
Olave would've been perfect, as not only would he provide an upgrade now, but he could've been a long-term solution, which would make it easier for the Giants to trade away future assets.
The Steelers are in a much different boat because they're ready to compete now, but Olave was an ideal target because he wouldn't just be a rental and could've have solved Pittsburgh's issue for at least one more season.
