Kristaps Porzingis injury update puts Hawks star's status for playing tonight in jeopardy

Kristaps Porzingis is in his first week with the Atlanta Hawks, and it has already been eventful.

On opening night, he dropped 20 points with seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

But then on Friday, Porzingis didn't play.

The Latvian big guy sat out Friday's game against the Orlando Magic with flu-like symptoms.

It's tough news for the Hawks, because they've also got a game Saturday. And the second game of the back-to-back is against the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder.

Is Kristaps Porzingis playing tonight?

There's no certainty yet one way or the other as to whether Porzingis will take the floor on Saturday against the Thunder.

Given that it's an illness, it's not as predictable as certain injuries may be.

The Hawks would certainly like to get Porzingis back, but it's early in the year and they could also choose to be cautious with their new prized frontcourt member.

When Porzingis sits, Onyeka Okongwu starts, and he's a talented player who can hold up just fine in Porzingis' absence. The impact is really felt further down the depth chart, in the minutes that would usually be the Okongwu backup minutes.

The Hawks will likely only make Porzingis' Saturday status clearer within a couple hours of tip off.
