Newcastle's most important player & teammate frustrated after second minute incident

Here's how the home players rated:

**7 Pope:** Was busier than Newcastle would have liked but made a number of good saves and was key to victory, even he couldn’t keep another clean sheet.

**6 Trippier**: Solid in the first half but troubled by substitute Kevin in the second, when he needed more protection from in front.

**7 Thiaw**: Challenging game up against the impressive Jimenez, whose movement troubled Newcastle. But stuck to his task well and was key when game was on a knife-edge after leveller.

**6 Botman:** Was fortunate a sloppy pass wasn’t punished by Lukic in the first half. The same Fulham player beat him to header for goal. Botman then had to be replaced.

**7 Burn:** Solid against the fast and unpredictable Adama Traore. Fulham looked more threatening down the opposite flank.

**6 Miley:** Some tidy touches and didn’t shirk the physical battle but Newcastle lost control in midfield after their bright opening.

**6 Joelinton:** Looked to be suffering with minor knock early on but played on through it.

**7 Bruno:** Unusually sloppy in the first half but helped Newcastle wrestle back control and popped up with last gasp winner.

**7 Murphy:** Fine finish to break the deadlock but should have done better with one-on-one later in first half. Looked tired before he was replaced on the hour.

**6 Gordon:** Looked all set-up for the winger after right-back Tete was booked after two minutes but he never quite got going. Replaced in the second half.

**6 Woltemade:** Fine footwork brought other attackers into play, but didn’t quite happen for Woltemade in the box after he hit the post early on.

**Substitutes:**

**7 Schar (for Botman, 61):** Stepped out of defence well and made a couple of crucial interceptions.

**6 Barnes (for Murphy, 61)**: Didn't make the most of a couple of good opportunities but fresh legs helped swing the game back in Newcastle's favour.

**8 Tonali (for Miley, 61):** Changed the game from the bench. Settled everything down and showed why he’s perhaps now Newcastle’s most important player.

**Elanga (for Gordon, 76):** N/A

**Osula (for Woltemade, 86)**: N/A

**Subs not used**: Ramsdale, Krafth, Willock, Ramsey

**Fulham:** Leno 7; Tete 7, Diop 7, Bassey 5, Sessegnon 6; Berge 7, Lukic 7 (Cairney, 85); Adama 6 (King, 76), Smith Rowe 5 (Kevin, 46), Iwobi 7; Jimenez 7

**Subs not used:** Lecomte, Castagne, Amissah, Cuenca, Reed, Kusi-Asare

**Man of the Match**: Tonali. If he was still feeling the after-effects of recent illness it didn’t show. Quality from the bench.
