Joe Gelhardt is starting to deliver while on loan from Leeds at Hull.
The man from Liverpool netted his third goal in three Championship outings for the Tigers as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Charlton earlier on Saturday, taking his total to five in 12 appearances so far this season.
While Joe Gelhardt should be pleased by his efforts, there is actually reason for the Leeds loanee to be disappointed.
Joe Gelhardt told he should be “disappointed” after Hull concede 91st minute equaliser
Despite putting Hull ahead, the 23-year-old allowed Luke Berry to get away from him inside the box just before he netted a late equaliser for the Addicks.
Gelhardt – who Harry Gray admires – was immediately aware of his mistake, putting his hands to his head as Berry raced off to celebrate.
It was an error mentioned by Hull Live when posting their match ratings from the game, although the Leeds loanee still did enough to earn an 8/10 – no other player was given a better score.
In full, Hull Live wrote: “A lovely piece of skill saw him get away from his man and set (Matt) Crooks in on goal. Really good finish from Crooks’ pass to make it three in three. Will be disappointed about the equaliser, seemed to switch off. 8/10.”

Ultimately, Gelhardt was not the only one at fault – there were two Hull players who lost out and allowed Charlton to win the first ball from that corner, so they are arguably more to blame for even allowing the cross to reach the back post.

Gelhardt – who made the Championship Team of the Week for matchday 11 – is also just 5ft 9in, so Hull fans can’t have expected him to make that much of an impact when it comes to defending corners.
Leeds have a decision to make over Joe Gelhardt
When the current campaign ends, Gelhardt – a popular figure amongst Leeds fans – will only have 12 months remaining on his contract.
It means another loan spell in the 2026/27 campaign would most likely see the striker leave as a free agent in July 2027, so Leeds need to decide whether they plan to keep or sell him at the end of the season.
Gelhardt is undoubtedly a talent, so with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Joel Piroe struggling for goals so far this term, we would advise Daniel Farke to give him a chance if he can maintain his excellent form.
