The Jacksonville Jaguars have shopped wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. and he could be traded at the trade deadline, according to the Athletic’s Dianna Russini. In his second season, Thomas leads the NFL in drop rate and has not been nearly as comfortable in Liam Coen’s scheme as he was in the previous iteration.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, who loved Thomas coming out of LSU, could be a team in the market for the star wide receiver. So far this season, Thomas has struggled to get things going, but the Jaguars could look to flip him for significant compensation.
Thomas has 27 receptions for 365 yards and one touchdown. He would fit in as a dynamic playmaker next to DK Metcalf if the Steelers did pull it off, though there are other names out there in the market, such as Jakobi Meyers, that are drawing interest, too.
“The Steelers are, once again, in the market for a receiver, sources say,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote. “Their offense has thrived by featuring multiple tight ends, but the addition of a speed threat to pair with DK Metcalf would help Aaron Rodgers and the offense.”
With Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, and Scotty Miller there, a speedy wide receiver would seem to be further down the list for a potential trade from the team.
There are not many obvious candidates on the open market. Players like Thomas, Meyers, Chris Olave, and Rashid Shaheed could represent the upper echelon of those options for the Steelers.
